Dealing With punishments
List all Experiences:
If you are a parent who is wondering what to do when it comes to disciplining your child, this can be helpful.
A number of parents are of the opinion that disciplining a child involves some kind of punishment or the other. This is far from the truth. I have noticed that the more that parents punish their children, the more are the chances that the children will get out of hand.
I wasn’t punished as a child, but even if you were punished as a child and you think it’s ok to punish your child because you turned out fine, punishing your child is not something that is suggested. A child, in the formative years, needs the parents love, understanding, care and support; and punishments go contrary to these ideas.
Instead of punishing my son, I try and identify what causes him to act in the manner that makes me think about punishing him. Once I’ve addressed this issue, there is a good chance that a similar situation would not arise in the future. This also increases the trust and faith that my son places in me.
I know that if I hope to have a healthy and long-lasting relationship with my son, then thinking about punishing him is no way to go about it.
